Slowing Down

July 2025

As I write this, the loud roar of the jet engines vibrates the small plastic oval window I'm leaning my head against, as the plane soars 36,000 feet above the ground. A luscious orange-pink glow is starting to peak above the horizon. I take a quick picture with my phone. Meanwhile the North Star is still shining brightly against the twilight sky as I find myself on an early morning flight to another adventure. This time I am headed to Colorado to spend some quality time with my niece and I can't wait to see her.

The past several weeks, since returning from our UK adventure, I’ve been spending a lot of time crafting, weeding and puzzling. It sounds boring but I’ve enjoyed the simplicity and ease of it. I enjoy these activities so much is that it gives my mind time to wander. They don’t require a lot of close attention and I’m able to lose myself as my hands work in the soil, move puzzle pieces around or place diamonds on the colorful canvas. Sometimes my mind will chew away at a problem I’m searching for a solution for. Other times I allow my mind to wander as it pleases – deciding which passing train of thought to jump on to next.

It feels like a form of moving meditation. Some of the thoughts that have popped up recently have me questioning. But I'll save that for another post.

Happy Wandering!
